I'm going to have figure out how to organize the forum with the switch to rF2 and race series but for now let's talk about BTCC here.

The BTCC series will start Sunday February 12, 2020.

The format will be our standard inverted twin sprint ~ 22.5 to 25 minutes each race with rolling starts. We finished up the rF1 Trans Am season with 'fast rolling starts" but rF2 doesn't have an equivalent so we may have to go to a human-paced manual rolling start. With the RWD Subaru vs FWD everything else, standing starts aren't a fair option even if we decided to take a competitive step backwards and use them again.

We'll have to consider the calendar and the overhead time that goes into a championship series but there has been talk of initially as few as 5 races and not more than 10. I can't see having a championship decided by less than 10 race weekends but the days of 15 weekend series are over. Count on one throwaway weekend for every 5.

I was originally focused on only 5 race weekends so it was pretty easy to go with five British tracks. 10 British tracks would probably be a stretch without extending to UK or we can just abandon the theme or really extend the geography with British Empire.

A week or two ago, I decided to leave out the Honda Civic because I have no way of ascertaining whether its tires are perfectly equal to to those of the other cars but I read last night that the Next Gen Mod Team cars are designed to be classified with the Studio 397 BTCC Civic. We need to attract as many new drivers as we can so I am inclined to test and test and personally run the series with a Civic so that we can lay any concerns to rest. If only the Next Gen guys had made the tire compounds and sidewall colors consistent with the S397 Civic. FWIW, yellow is medium for both. Another long term concern is the Civic is lacking a taller final drive option which makes it impossible to race at tracks like Monza, LeMans and Daytona, the Civic will be on the rev limiter while the other cars blow it. Thruxton might even be a problem in the draft. If the physics files weren't encrypted, I could easily fix it. I may try to get Studio 397 to update the car, pretty pathetic oversight in my opinion.

BTCC unlikely to use full Oulton Park layout again after criticism

https://www.autosport.com/btcc/news/114 ... ton-layout

We'll either use the Island or Foster's layout, leaning heavily towards the Island layout just like the real BTCC series.

We'll be sure to talk about this before the schedule is finalized but it turns out that the real world British Car Championship spans 10 weekends on tracks that have decent or better versions already in rF2.

I like the idea and that we can easily replicate the real world schedule but doing so would have us doing two rounds at Silverstone and Brands Hatch on layouts (National and Indy, respectively) that would not be my first choice but are totally fine and would, should, could be interesting as they make for short and many laps.

A 10 race season replicating the real series would be good, might even gets some Brits to join. :D Keep the Civic in it and good luck getting 397 to upgrade the car

Being as this would be our first season and venture into RF2 I think we should be open to ending the series before 10 races if it ends up not being enjoyable for the majority of the racers and move on to something else.

I am OK with doing different layouts of the same track on different week-ends. May I suggest a French or Belgian track to fill in if there are not enough British tracks available? They're just a hop over The Channel. :D

We'll have two official test weekends (Jan 26 and Feb 5) prior to the first championship weekend to help everyone learn and debug rF2 and the BTCC cars. If you need a break, then that's two more weekends off but if you want to race then there will be organized racing available.

We'll talk about over the next few weekends but to me it makes sense to use tracks that we are very familiar with, are simple or are great with these cars but didn't make it onto the schedule.

The real world 2019 BTCC schedule:

Rounds Date Circuit, County
1,2,3 Sat 6/Sun 7 April Brands Hatch (Indy), Kent
4,5,6 Sat 27/Sun 28 April Donington Park, Leics
7,8,9 Sat 18/Sun 19 May Thruxton, Hampshire
10,11,12 Sat 15/Sun 16 June Croft, North Yorkshire
13,14,15 Sat 29/Sun 30 June Oulton Park, Cheshire
16,17,18 Sat 3/Sun 4 August Snetterton, Norfolk
19,20,21 Sat 17/Sun 18 August Thruxton, Hampshire
22,23,24 Sat 14/Sun 15 September Knockhill, Fife
25,26,27 Sat 28/Sun 29 September Silverstone, Northants
28,29,30 Sat 12/Sun 13 October Brands Hatch (Grand Prix), Kent

I expect that we'll do similar except that we'll drop Knockhill, add Snetteron 200 and move Brands to later in the season.

Going to miss the test race and probably a few into the season.
Travelling on the weekend still. Will probably continue for a while.
Since I'm away all week, the girls in the house here take precedence over the boys on the forum there.

I miss it. I will be back when I am able.

There was something about this mod that I just couldn't put my finger on that was bugging me and I think I figured it out today. There are no tire sounds. No skidding or scrubbing sounds at all.

Is it just my configuration? I tried two RWD and one FWD car.

I've heard them on the formation lap when I rolled into a corner a little too fast. Try coasting through some corners? I wouldn't expect to hear tires over the engine and exhaust....

Strange. I turned down engine sounds, cranked up tire sounds to 400% and locked them up, off throttle at the end of a straight and heard nothing (but saw smoky lockup stuff behind me). I hear the tires in corners with S397 cars.

I'll experiment some more.
