WOW!!! That is awesome, covers the whole spectrum from LeMans to drag racing. Even seen James Dean and his Porsche in there. Thanks for posting.

Oh man, I think I will spend hours at this site later tonight. Just perusing the site, I found this:

Bob Allen is the reason why I always have the #39 on my racecars, sim or real. So here's kind of a long story!

Way back in 1985 or so, I was a kid who went with my parents to the racetrack only because I had to. I didn't like racing very much...I'd have more fun at Laguna Seca or Sears Point catching lizards, butterflies, and occasionally poison oak (yes, I am weird like that). Back then, SCCA events were still spectator friendly. My parents would camp out on the turn 8 hill at Sears Point for SCCA races. I only had fun when Trans-Am or IMSA would come to town once or twice a year.

One of those club races in '85, I noticed a big orange Tiga Can-Am car racing in A Sports Racing (a class that is long gone)...not only was it big, it was fast and sounded great. You probably guessed it had the #39 on it. My parents took me to the paddock area to go meet the guy who raced it, and his name was Bob Allen, of "B.A.R.E Racing" local fame. He gave me a hat, which is great thing for a 9-year old to get.

That began a long friendship with him and his now late wife, Bernie. I went to a few Portland Rose Cups as his crew, always said Hi every time I saw him at SCCA races, and often visited his shop out in Ripon right after I got my driver's license.

Finally, with me getting older and theoretically more adult, I ended up not seeing him for a very long time, since the late 90's. In 2008, I was getting my F500 teched in scrutineering on a Saturday morning at Laguna Seca (that ended up being the last time I drove in SCCA competition - as an aside, you can see the SCCA SFR tech sticker on the headlight of the Cobra above...they remain the same to this day), and I hear a voice behind me say: "39! That's a great number!"...the voice was Bob Allen, and he was standing there smiling at me. I am glad he finally got to see me race, and with a #39 on my car to boot.

We chatted for a bit, then he had to go home in his newer Dodge Viper with a license plate that said 200WINS. His curtains at home were made out of checkered flags he won over the years in SCCA! I wish I could remember most of the stories he told me from racing in the 60's...for instance, stories about George Lucas of Lucasfilm fame racing various Porsches.

Many people have famous racing car drivers as their heroes. Mine was always Bob Allen.

Thanks for the link!

The Olympia Charger! Raced at LeMans, and recently raced there again in the Classic.

One of the drivers of that Charger still races in the K&N West series today, even on the road courses. That same driver also raced in NASCAR's first season in 1950.
