We quickly approach the third round of the second annual 2014 Endurance Championship, with our third stop at The Mountain!

Image

efnetsimracing continues its string of epic annual Special Events along with the Endurance Championship, this time with a visit to the legendary Mt. Panorama Circuit at Bathurst, for the Labour Day 1000 Classic!

We'll be using the updated version of TCL, called "Touring Masters." This version (unfortunately) removes the AE86 Toyota, but (fortunately) cleans up the mod completely, gets rid of a lot of the bad glitches, and equalizes the vehicles in a sort of League Edition.

This time around will be TWO classes: the V8 Class will consist of the Holden and the Ford Mustang, while the Touring Class will consist of everything else.

Register on the forum and reply in the Driver Classification Thread with your car selection. We would like to avoid double cars, and there will be no custom skins for this event.

----

Qualifying begins 30 minutes earlier than usual, 9:00 PM EST. The race will be 50 Laps, with 1x Tire and 1x Fuel. Most of the cars are in the 35-36 Lap range on fuel, so at least one stop for fuel will be required. Tire strategy will of course play a role, as you can switch from Hards to Mediums to Softs, so be sure to practice!

The cars can work with Realfeel, but they weren't designed for it. The feel is a bit vague but the physics are great, the models are great and the sounds are awesome. They drive sideways pretty well.

There is no pit road speed limit enforced, but you will be penalized if you hit another car in pit road.

V8 Class

Ford Mustang
Holden Commodore VL

Touring Class

Nissan Skyline R32
Toyota Supra Turbo
Ford Sierra RS500
Mercedes 190E
BMW E30 M3
BMW M635csi
Volvo 240 Turbo
Rover Vitesse
Alfa Romeo 155 Turbo

Spread the word--this is an Invitational, come one, come all, it should be a blast!

I like the Touring Car Legends WTCC mod and would rather not spend time on a new mod unless it's one that we'd use a lot.

Having said that, though, I've never tried V8 Supercars but it's on my list of mods to try one of these days.

edit

Sorry, poor wording; Touring Car Legends (the mod that we used the last two years) is what I should have said.

Knowing how well the races went over at GBR in the same car, I can safely say no work would be needed. Which would be a bonus. Downside, if at all, is that it's basically spec cars.

I wasn't thinking about TWEAKING work, just the normal acclimation to a new mod, picking a car, setup, skins, etc.

NOT driving the TCL-WTM Mustang for two hours around Bathurst might extend my life a bit, though!

And honestly, after the first two races I'm not sure we shouldn't tweak the Mustang anyway... :?

I personally love the WTM (TCL) mod. Yeah it's not as pretty as it is a pretty old mod as far as that goes...but I love me some Group A Touring Cars.

Yeah, for a one-off event it would be nice to use something we already have. WTCC or Touring Car Legends are both good.

Sorry, poor wording; Touring Car Legends (the mod that we used the last two years) is what I should have said.

I never tried the WTCC mod that had some front drive cars but Coffey keeps talking about it.

Rather than tweak the Touring Car Legends' Mustang, I'd vote just ban it if the car is thought to be too good but then scrutiny has to shift to that Holden thing with the same consequence.

End even then, we were using a modified version of TCL called World Touring Masters (WTM). It was a version of TCL modified for league use at RaceDepartment. All the slower class cars were removed, and the Group A cars were tweaked a bit to make them more competitive with each other.

Post subject:  Re: 2014 Bathurst 1000 Classic - Discussion

I think the WTM Mod is great, but would be even better if only a sort of DTM class is choosed, excluding the over powered but poorly handling cars.

That would leave Mercedes, both BMW´s, the Alfa, the Volvo and the Toyota, as far I can remember.
All those are almost equivalent in power and handling.

This combination is being used in other League and was a massive sucess.

There are other options also.

The favorite one to me would be of course the Blancpain Endurance Series Mod. :)

Although I'm not huge fan of the TLC mod but its not bad. I vote for keeping it as the mod for this race just to keep it consistent. We all have it, have setups for it and have logged lots of laps with it at this track. These one off races are tough enough with out throwing a wrench in it by switching mods. ;)

TCL for me.

Over at HSO they (I am still on the bloody waiting list due to its popularity) have good close racing without any tweaks and a full grid.

I have not run these cars in anger yet and would really like the opportunity to have a bash in them.

World Touring Masters for me. I agree w/ kicking the cars mentioned, though it seems weird to not have a Ford/Holden battle @ Bathurst. Tweaks or two classes would be fine by me also. I just enjoy this mod for some reason along w/ the challenge of an enduro @ Bathurst!

Fair enough. You have the most experience with them Caleb, would you be up to tweaking the Ford and Holden, with a little testing? Maybe co-ordinate with Tom.

Author:  Tom Lory [ Fri Jul 25, 2014 5:40 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: 2014 Bathurst 1000 Classic - Discussion

I'm still voting for simply leaving the Mustang and Holden out.

Usually it makes sense to tweak to lap time but that's not really fair to the Mustang drivers as that doesn't account for the extra effort that is required to keep that thing on the track for two hours.

With great risk comes great reward...

Obviously most of last year's drivers agreed by not choosing the Mustang, Nabil (2012 winner) and Chris James (2013 winner) are at least 1/2 alien most of the time, Chris, Brandon and I raced the Mustang weekly before last year's event and we practiced our asses off.

Even without them there are NINE cars to choose from. One of those is likely to be the best car, probably unavoidable that there will be one car that is best for Bathurst.

Mustang vs Holden class
everything else

Post subject:  Re: 2014 Bathurst 1000 Classic - Discussion

Hmm, that's actually a decent thought, if we get enough interest.

It's not so much that the Mustang is too fast for the class, it's that it's too fast at BATHURST. As we saw in the WTCC *series* plenty of cars can win. Touring Masters did good work balancing the field. But we're talking about one race a very high speed track.

I drove the Mustang as a last second switch the first year and didn't do that well. Last year I switched to the Holden I think and was ok. This year I think I'd have another go at the Mustang. :D

What's everyone think of two classes? Mustang and Holden, and everyone else? Or maybe Mustang, Holden and Supra? Not counting alien-Sauve running the Mercedes, the top 5 fast laps from last year were those three, within about half a second. Then the other cars were all 1+ seconds back....

As long as the Mustang and Holden are in a separate class is fine.
It is unfair to count this in the "endurace" championship when you have to drive the Mustang to have a chance at overall win.

I'd expect the two classes to award points towards the Endurance Championship; there might be an "overall winner" but there would be two winners paying first place points, same as Daytona.

Okay how's this then 8-) :P

The Endurance Series (?) is VLN Nordschleife, Daytona 2.4, Bathurst 1000 and LeMans 2.4.

VLN had FOUR classes in 2013 and 2014.

Daytona had two classes when we used the Grand Am mod in 2013 and it had two classes this year with Enduracers.

Bathurst 1000 had a single class in 2012 and 2013 and the race was won with a Mustang both times.

LeMans was Prototype and GTC in 2012 and Prototype and GT in 2013.

Just a reminder for those that don't run this mod on a regular basis, and those new to the mod:

Don't rely on the tire wear indicators! The tires will fall off long before they get into the red. Monitoring lap times is a better indication of tire health.

This is probably the one thing that gets most new people frustrated with this mod when they don't figure that little tid bit out. ;)

For me GID tire info seems to parallel rFactor LCD tire info.

Just do a session with soft tires and 7X tire wear and you will quickly learn that yellow is pretty much rain and red is ice.

You do mean with the TCM mod Tom? So far I do not appear to have a problem with the GID wear indicators.

EDIT: Okay, got it, thanks Tom.

I dont seem to have the same fault as Chris does. Both indicators show the same wear and the tyres are as Tom says when on the red and yellow. Thanks chaps.

1. This is a 50 lap race. DO NOT try to pass anyone until after turn 1.
2. These cars need warm brakes and tires. They won't be warm enough until we are coming down the mountain. Please don't try late-braking dive moves in the first right turn to go up the mountain. I hate dodging cars playing pinball with the walls.
