We'll again be belted into the excellent RSM V8 Supercars @ at the thrilling Mount Panorama circuit for a simulation of the real life Bathurst 1000.

Pros and Sportsmen will contest their own classes, making this one of only two AES events that distinguish between the two groups to guarantee top points to Sportsmen.

The cars are functionally identical so simply pick your favorite and get to work on setup and race strategy!

We'll be testing over the next couple of weeks to address the speed on Conrod which is limited by the gearing and rev limiter. The mod is very accurate to real life including the gearing being a bit short for Conrod. In real life, V8 Supercars specified a taller drop gear for the 2015 and 2016 Bathurst 1000 (as well as other tracks with the same problem). We may do the equivalent, raise the rev limit (as we have no engine life nor cost concerns) or make 6th gear slightly taller. The benefit to us is that it could/should make it easier/possible to make a pass if you can manage the speed.

After hours of testing and contemplation, it has been decided that we will raise the rev limit from 7500 to 7800 rpm for Bathurst, raising the ultimate rpm limited speed from about 300 kph to 312 kph. It's very unlikely that we'll see 312 kph but early testing has cars reaching almost 304 kph during wheel to wheel testing. It'll be interesting...

As close as the mod is to real world, it's not close enough to make exactly the same gearing change that V8 Supercars did and my feeling is that the increase in revs will benefit everyone but taller gearing would have hurt the slower Pros and Sportsmen more than it would have helped.

The change should make it possible to draft and pass on Conrod as well as Mountain Straight. Prior to the change, the passer would hit the limiter as he pulled out to pass on Conrod - "hit the wall" - Mountain Straight would force a shift from 5th to 6th gear at the critical moment, pretty much eliminating passing.

The rev is limit is adjustable from 7500 to 7800 rpm so everyone can easily test against the 2015 performance by using the 7500 rpm limit and may find a setting other than 7800 that provides a strategic or performance advantage or simply a personal preference. Often a rev limiter or shift light provides a good braking marker, for example.

Additionally, the random engine life variable has been reduced from 42,000 seconds to 2,600 seconds to essentially eliminate random premature engine failures and eliminate the advantage that XD users have as that plug-in reports reduced engine life from the beginning so its drivers can keep getting a new car until they get the largest engine life % number while GID always displays 100% on engine startup.

Punitive engine wear doesn't kick in till 8000 rpm so rpm related wear will mostly be caused by excessive revs on downshifts which are, of course, not controlled by the rev limiter with overheating being the other factor that affects engine life.

Posted the event @ GBR. We haven't used the mod is quite a while, so I don't know how many (if any) it will pull.
