For the second year in a row, 14 drivers gridded up for our V8 Supercars Bathurst 1000, with only 7 returning drivers. Maybe next year we'll move this event deeper into Fall.

The Pro win and third place again went to Tom Lory and Dale Beatty, respectively, with ESR Rookie Greg Fury securing second position on home pavement, considering both that he is Australian and has raced at the Mount Panorama circuit. Fury is normally properly classified as Sportsman with our other racing series but he had top time during weekday testing and qualified a highly competitive third place so the race director classified him as a Pro for this event, which proved to be proper, lapping the Sportsman winner three times.

A rev limit increase for all the cars didn't seem to produce the added passing opportunities that were hoped for. The pole record from 2015 held but the race fast lap was an improvement over 2015. By any reasoning, the cars should be a bit quicker and faster.

Canadian Eric Richard acutely demonstrated that to finish first you must first finish and lapped the rest of the Sportman class 32-51 times as their broken cars parked in their garages with DNFs, Richard being the ONLY Sportsman to finish the race. Remarkably, he is one of only three drivers who are in contention for the Annual Endurance Series title of Champion, which will be decided at the end of year at LeMans. All of the Pros completed the full race distance and only one was off the lead lap.

Had a blast. Got extremely lucky on L1 when I was escorted off into the beach at McPhillamy Park. I was able to keep it pointed straight, skittered through the sand, and rejoined only losing 2 positions. I slowly reeled KJ in, then we commenced to having a grand ole battle that lasted for quite a few laps. Other than that it was just a battle against The Mountain. Always entertaining, immersive, and life threatening. Ran the race according to plan, no unscheduled pit stops. Ultimately ended up taking on a bit too much fuel, but it wouldn't have made much of a difference in the end.

Much more entertaining than running around a 3/8mi bowl.

Congrats Tom on the win, fantastic 2nd place Greg and a really strong run Dale for 3rd.

What practice I did do this week I was off pace by a few seconds but faster than I was last year.

Race start went ok but could see the handwriting on the wall as the main core of the group just walked away from me even on the first lap. After Chris had his off I watched him keep reeling me in until he was on me, I raced as hard as could to stay in front of him but alas I got too hot into a corner in an unforced error and easily handed the pass over to him. I tried to hang with him but minor little errors only compounded watching him eventually disappear from my view as I increased my gap over Eric behind me. So other than the few laps battling with Chris it was another 2 hour Bathurst race of driving by myself, trying as hard as could for nothing all the while not trying to crash or go off. So when I said making minor errors they truly were minor, like not being a perfect corner and/or wrong braking point, I only had one thing happen and that was a glance off the wall up on the mountain that didn't really affect the car.

So sorry to be sour grapes but overall not a fun time for me. :(

So I don't get it how every year here I can be off the pace by 3 to 4 seconds here, I surely know the track and probably have a thousand laps here over the last 10 years with various sims practice and race laps.

Germany finally got a win on Efnet Bathurst 1000. The two Silverstars of Richard and Larocque lead the race for the first laps. Despite a lot of DNF and crash on Sportsman category, the beginning of the race was fun and challenging. I ended lapping alone for 35 laps. See you again next year. Very fun mod and track !! Im sure doing that event on winter should get more people ! Or even do it with other tracks like Adelaide or Melbourne once in a while.

Did I say I was pleased seeing a Mercedes win ?

Sorry for the delay with the results, I expect to post by the end of the week.

Eric, please post a full size rFactor screenshot so that I can fix your victory pic. I evidently am missing the #99 skin.

I was expecting Minkler to take the win and would have been happy with a podium.

I played my first full round of golf the Friday before the race and by time I hit a bucket of balls at the driving range before our tee-off, I was missing a layer of skin on both of my thumbs. I finished the day with a layer of skin missing from five places between my two hands, three of which overlapped with my hands on the steering wheel. If there had been a full field of entries, I might have skipped the race to save my hands for work but I couldn't see diminishing the grid further with an absence.

Hoping for a pair of batting gloves, the only gloves that I could find at home that might have worked for sim racing were a pair of motocross gloves and a pair of water-skiing / watercraft gloves. The watercraft gloves were too tight (probably loosen up when wet) so I practiced some with the MX gloves but wasn't happy. I made a last ditch minimal effort Sunday to find golf gloves locally which I evidently "need" anyway but no joy but I am now set for a very long time on bandaids, thanks to Coscto. It'll be ironic if the next time I go, they'll have golf clubs and gloves, I didn't look.

I alternated between with and without gloves ahead of qualifying, deciding on bandaids and no gloves for the race but I had to remove the two from my thumbs during the race as they were detrimental to feel. Surprisingly, my sim racing muscles weren't fatigued or tense from the two hour race, probably because I felt no pressure to win and pretty much lapped alone the entire race with no one in my mirrors beyond the opening laps; actually I take that back, Greg was within 6-7 seconds about 2/3 distance and there was a moment when I was in peril of being caught behind a lapper with Greg looming in the mirrors but that helped me focus more than it tensed me up and it didn't last long.

My hands took a beating but I borrowed some New Skin liquid bandage which instantly made me more comfortable than I'd been since my golf outing.

I like these cars and simply finishing Bathurst is rewarding but I'd sure like to race them on a track that involves more actual racing.
