The theme for this season will be real world USA club and national level tracks that are currently in operation.

Willow Springs is a little complicated as the version that is closest to real life may not race so well as it's fast, flowing and narrow-ish with little margin for error.

The version that we've used before is a caricature at best but it's fun, roomy and should race well. We've eliminated some deadly track features which were a primary reason for not using the track again.

Miller is one of those tracks that maybe once a year I'll do a lap or two hoping to like it, which ends with me thinking that most of us won't like it. This year, I came to understand that the shorter "outer loop" is the layout that is used by Pirelli World Challenge and Moto America so I focused on that and came away thinking that it'll be good. Wide, acres of runoff, lots of corners to keep us close, long fast straight with a very wide Turn 1 and some fun sections. It's pretty flat and featureless but the corners are well marked with pylons and braking markers. As far as I am aware of, as close as Rfactor gets to offering a home track for 2016 Trans Am and GTC champ Minkler.

Watkins Glen is a significant track with a long prestigious history that we've let cool for a few seasons now. I'm thinking that we'd change it up a bit by using the shorter NASCAR layout which may very well suit the Trans Am cars better. The NASCAR layout raced great with GTC in 2014.

Unless we extend the schedule, I'd say that Willow Springs is "on the bubble".

Even if the Willow Springs version we run is not accurate it sure is fun and wide, makes for some good racing. I honestly would pick it over Miller, which I have raced at several times and did not like it.

Just my 2 cents. Pat and Rich were in the same races so they might have a different opinion. Just seemed hard to learn easy to loose where your at and cones everywhere. :D

I ran some races with AI last night at Willow Springs SKS and Miller.

Having to get used to the Trans Am cars and trying the 70 Camaro, Challenger and Mustang compounded matters but Miller is surprisingly technical. At one point I found myself pondering whether it's as technical as COTA.

Once I mostly knew what I was doing, it was fun. Until then, not so much. It's a long lap with lots of braking, cornering and corner exits and then throw in the tricky T16-18 "Attitudes" and it feels like an accomplishment at a real life racetrack to lap it. Really brings out the feel of the Trans Am cars with having to turn very early in order to hit the apexes. Main goals of racing there will be to gap the driver behind or get close enough to the driver ahead to pass at T1 and pounce when another driver makes a mistake. With 23 corners, there are many mistakes to be made and spots to better than the other driver. I think that we'd patch it so that the pylons and braking markers stay put. ~2:15-ish lap time.

Willow Springs SKS is a fantasy track that mimics the real Willow Springs circuit. Within 5 laps I was flying around like a maniac, one of those tracks that puts you in that non-stop intense maniac mode. Easy to learn, diffcult to master, a fast lap will take work, learning. Passing here I think will come at the very long complex of right hand corners at the end of the lap by being better than the driver ahead. Mistakes either slow you or have you bouncing off the k-wall which at most places is well within bounds of two wheels on the racing surface. 1:23 lap time IIRC.

Completely different from one another, my feeling is that if we were all familiar with Miller, it would race better.

The other tracks are set so I'll put these two in the rotation for Mondays after Bathurst 1000 and will post both soon.

Okay, BS on the technical as COTA, I just needed a couple of days to get back in tune with the T/A cars.

I enabled the server with the Trans Am V8s, Road America, Willow Springs SKS and Miller. Any two drivers can change tracks by vote.

It looks like I'll be around Sunday evening for Fun Races / testing.

I'd planned on being able to pop on tonight but just got home from my buddies place working all day on the disc brake install on the Camaro. I'm whooped and sore. Going to bed early tonight!

I updated the schedule, think that we're set, only three SCCS race weekends left, need to move forward.

I'll personally accept all the blame if Miller turns out to race poorly. ;)

Based on the poll, it looks like we're ready for a change with no endurance rounds for this series and sprint races at Mid-Ohio and Sebring for the first time in many years, if not ever.

We'll have three weeks between the last SCCS race and the first Trans Am championship race but time flies so pick a car and request a skin as soon as possible, fall and winter make for prime sim racing season, let's make the most of it. We'll also have a long winter break due to the timing of Christmas and New Year's so it won't feel like all we're doing is sim racing.

I've run the Miller track a couple of times since I posted this. It's the exact same track version I've raced on before and still feel the same. I find it not interesting nor fun to drive, just my 2cents.

Well, every once in awhile Mikey ate cereal that he didn't like

I always try to make everyone happy but this will probably be a track where happiness is in your own hands. I've done lots of laps wheel to wheel with Hutton and Smith and it's raced great.

Obviously, in contrast to the rest of schedule which is comprised of tracks that we are very familiar with it's going to take some time to get up to speed and discover the flow which I promise does exist.
