There's also an update coming to the 1967 Endurance Mod of the Howston Group 4 cars. It's a workshop item. It's worth a long look at the physics work on the different cars.

I am considering breaking the protocol of only using Steam Workshop content for the time being by bringing back the ESR Le Mans 2.4 on December 28, 2019 with these cars.

I had the Porsche 917k and Howsten G4 up on the server for almost a week and there were few takers as far I noticed.

I expect that the 917 is a bucket list car for many of us and would certainly make for a good single class Le Mans 2.4 but two cars with different strengths and weaknesses is much more interesting.

Steam:

The Howston HG4 and HG6 are based off the designs of the Lola T70, a successful racing car from the 1960s. In 1965 and 1966, the T70 was the fastest race car in the world, and at that point could outpace a Formula One car. It boasted stable, predictable, handling along with blinding acceleration.

lemans.org:

Although, unlike Graham Hill, Lola never won the Le Mans 24 Hours, it can be argued that it contributed to Ford’s success in the French race as engineer Roy Lunn used a Lola Mk6 GT as the basis for the development of the Ford GT40.

Around that time, Lola developed the T70 which raced between 1967 and 1972, first with an Aston Martin V8 engine (Mk II), then a Chevrolet (Mk III).

The T70 never finished Le Mans, even with star drivers such as John Surtees at the wheel. However, the car was a star of the silver screen, albeit in disguise: the Ferrari 512 and Porsche 917 featured in Steve McQueen’s Le Mans were actually Lola T70s.

If they play nice together, I'm up for a rematch, Ford v Ferrari v Lola...

The Porsche 917k as it has been given to us, is way too quick. In real life, it probably was, too. The proper playmate for the three cars above is probably the Porsche 908 which might be one of the obscurely named cars in the 1967 Endurance car set.

We'd have so many more options with 26+ active racers :(
