Day 42 of Covid-19 lockdown for my region has me looking into streaming our races.

I've only scratched the surface but it looks to be doable with Open Broadcaster Software and You Tube.

Based on the minutes that I have spent, the stream will be whatever is displayed on the monitor of the computer from which it is being streamed so if I was the one who did it live during our race then all that You Tube would see is the race from my in-car.

If I streamed the replay, then anything goes. This seems to be the way to go unless a driver dedicated himself to being the broadcaster.

Anybody with experiences streaming rF2?

Yes, you're limited to what's on your screen. AFAIK the only way to do a race broadcast type stream is for someone to connect as a spectator and do the stream with the various available cameras. In theory you could setup a 2nd PC for that if:

a) rF2 allows you to install it via your Steam account on another PC and then connect as a spectator from a dummy account [I haven't tested this] and,
b) the second PC was powerful enough to spectate the sim and encode the stream

I'll probably try streaming a replay, doesn't matter much whether it's live or not for those who might watch it.

I set up OBS Studio software and registered with YouTube to allow streaming.

I've arrived at decent settings for video capture, 24 hours till YouTube is activated when I can see how that translates to streaming.

The video recording quality to file size is vastly superior to Lolio, a little under 80 MB per minute. During the BTCC season I attempted to upload a few laps of a battle with Rich Minkler but gave up after 4-6 hours of upload and processing time when I realized that the file size was almost 8 GB for 8 minutes worth of video.

My hope is to stream the replays of the races during the week, thinking that the video quality will be higher and eliminates editing time but at the very least I should be able to post replays on YouTube.

It seems like broadcasting live while I am racing would be a lot to ask of my 8 year old CPU and possibly my new but only perfectly adequate graphics card. Even if I could pull it off, the stream would be limited to what I see in-car.

I ended up playing around some more thinking that my gut feeling about streaming being a better solution than uploading will be true.

That set me to recording @ 1920 x 1080 and 60 fps while racing 18 AI @ Paul Ricard as an attempt at stress testing my PC.

No evident issues and data collected on my CPUs and GPU indicate that neither was very stressed, 70% was the highest usage that I saw.

90 MB for 26 seconds of video, ~ 207 MB per minute with MP4 format.

Looked to be glitch free every time that I checked on it from my office PC and phone, no apparent issues while lapping on the server while streaming.

Not very hard. Install and configure OBS, register for YouTube, wait 24 hours, start rF2, start OBS, start YouTube Studio, configure a couple of things.

Cool Tom. Missed looking at it but I think I'm going to try it also. If it works on race night my brother can watch me race.

Checked out the stream. Looks good.

What mod are you using Tom for the hud around the rear view mirror?

Not sure, Mike Campbell. It's from Steam Workshop, I'll check and update the next time that I am in the rig.
