After the BTCC championship is concluded, we will be running the Simtek GT3 World Challenge cars following as closely as possible with free tracks the GT3 World Challenge Europe schedule.

A major twist will be to run three championships on the same schedule: Twin Sprint, Sprint and Overall (or a more unique name).

At each of the tracks, we will have the Twin Sprint format one weekend and a one hour (real life race distance) Sprint (no fuel stops) the following weekend. Drivers can race every weekend or every other weekend to be in contention for one to three championships which will give us an opportunity to balance our racing with other summer activities.

It is probable that we'll elevate the real world simulation level of the Sprint weekends with different times of day for practice, qualifying and race and will at at least one round throw weather into the mix.

The Twin Sprints will maintain our usual format; two 22-25 minute sprint races with fuil inversion for Race 2, practice, qualifying and race all at 15:00 sim track time of day, dry weather, rolling starts.

My expectation is that all of the regulars will participate regardless of what we drive but a theory is that in order to attract new drivers we need to tap into those that are new to sim racing and the cars that interest them which predominantly is going to be current real world championship series. I saw a many new names enter the server when we had the Simtek GT3 cars up while we were in the process of transitioning to rF2, almost certainly more than with any of the other cars.

Part of the plan is to have the GT3 cars on the ESR server from after the BTCC races Sunday night thru Monday night until the end of the BTCC season, by which time two test race weekends and the complete schedule will be posted.

Historic and vintage cars are in ESR's DNA, will not be abandoned and will be up for consideration for whatever follows the GT3 championship after Labor Day weekend with one-off race weekends on the various holidays before then a possibility.

Once the message board is back to normal, I'll start a new forum with the usual car and driver classification, schedule, downloads, etc.

Real world 2020 GT3 World Challenge Europe schedule:

https://www.gt-world-challenge-europe.com/calendar

I momentarily have all of the tracks but need to test. I'll probably deviate from the real world schedule by deciding the track order geographically, shortest travel distance.

In order of 2020 real world:

1. Brands Hatch GP
2. Silverstone (probably International but TBD)
3. Paul Ricard (probably Proto but TBD)
4. Zandvoort
5. Misano
6. Spa Francorchamps
7. Nurburgring GP
8. Hungaroring
9. Barcelona
10. Imola

I know a good Paul Ricard layout for rFactor2, by carrera4, it is the 1988 layout!

Thanks, Eric.

I am away from my game PC but I believe that the one that we used with rFactor (HTTT) is in Steam Workshop and on my game PC but hasn't been installed on the server yet. Less likely to use a 1988 layout with current cars...

I have the Simtek GT3 cars @ Watkins Glen on the server now.

I am open to changing to another track when I can. I went with The Glen because it's on Steam, is a short lap, simple and the cars can stretch their legs a little.

I prefer that any alternative be a Steam track to simplify with our current forum issues.

Nice to see you, Brian.

We are on Round 7 of 10 of the BTCC championship so the server is accordingly set to the BTCC cars and Brands Hatch.

http://forum.efnetsimracing.com/viewforum.php?f=100

Going forward, we'll have the Simtek GT3s on Mondays and Fridays until the conclusion of BTCC.

The BTCC cars aren't as sexy as the GT3s but race very well and have been teaching us much about tire management.

I can't recall whether another track was substituted to whether it went from 11 to rounds.

10 rounds fits better for us but for the sake of realism, let's keep Monza as an alternative in case one of the tracks doesn't work. A few drivers had disconnect issues at Brands Hatch with BTCC, for example...

I have all of the tracks now:

Brianza v1.7
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1afg7QNVdXMxm7M3r1aaAkZIWF35WPAdu/view?usp=sharing

The RaceRfactor version of Monza has issues with shadows and road reflections. Turning shadows down to low is a fix, I haven't experimented with reflections.

Brianza v1.7 doesn't have those issues but I like the RaceRfactor curbs and the paved runoff at Parabolica a little better for our purposes.

It was brought to my attention last night that the Ferrari and Lamborghini don't have enough steering angle to exit some of the garages at Brianza v1.7.

Digging into that, it was also revealed that one or the other (I simply can't recall which) has relatively limited adjustment for the steering wheel rotation setting.

I've driven all of the cars and quickly arrived at a satisfying steering quickness. The limited steering lock was a non-issue until Brianza so it went unnoticed.

It turns out that it would be possible for me to patch the cars but that would set up a mismatch condition that would prevent those who don't have the patch from joining our server which defeats a primary reason for running the very popular GT3 cars with the free and easily obtained through Steam Workshop Simtek GT3 car set.

When we discussed the GT3 idea a few weeks ago, we decided to be careful with everyone's spending and to make our series available to a theoretically larger group of rF2 users who have the Simtek GT3 and abstain from the Studio 397 paid content GT3 cars for now. We are going to stick to that this year.

A compromise might be that you won't be able to drive your first choice because you are unable to arrive at satisfactory steering setting. A situation like having to maneuver back and forth a couple of times to get out of the garage at Brianza will be annoying but not insurmountable.

I intend to finalize the schedule by the end of this week.

We'll have two official test weekends before the start of the championship. The first will be our usual Twin Sprint format. The second will be the 60 minute Sprint format. Watkins Glen GP (boot no chicane) is the most likely track.

It turns out that with major USA holidays, there isn't room on the calendar for two test weekends without pushing the championship deep into September or shortening it.

No one should be relying on the official tests for their personal preparation, the test races are mostly for us to work out any bugs ahead of the first official race and normally to buy us more time for car selection and skins and for me to do the admin work. I expect that many of us have extra time on our hands due to Covid 19, I'll be using chunk of mine to get us ready.

There are so many cars and skins to choose from that we can easily get away without custom skins.

I'll put some more thought into this, maybe we can shorten up the Sprint (60 minute races) series by a race or two.

I'm looking for some feedback ahead of the GT3 Official Test so I'm going have the GT3 cars on the server immediately after the BTCC races with the intention of running one or more races with fuel and tires multipliers TBD.

I wanted to drive the Lambo but the steering angle problem may prevent it. I'll keep testing to see if I can make it work for me.

I tested pretty much everyone of them, my love is going to the Bentley if I can find a left hand drive model. The 488 is still on my mind, but the Bentley felt more oversteery and forgivable. Did my test on Spa and Paul Ricard.

I wanted to take the Camaro, as the idea gave me a warm feeling. But, the back end is slippery. (didn't test much)
My second choice was the Bentley. I have some stones in the back yard that are not as stable as that thing, so I was going to take that.
I had a go in the others, just to see how they sound. I didn't pay much attention to my lap times.

By far, the Porsche is the most fun. The feeling was immediate and decisive.
I'm taking that one.

Going to make a paint for myself, to see if I can make it work.

This could wait till Sunday but again I don't really have anything better to do that I feel like doing this minute.

I have another idea for the Official Test that could maybe spill over into the series.

I am reminded that some of us don't like / are skeptical about the fuel and tire multipliers.

I'm not mistrusting at all, used them all the time in preparation for the Annual Endurance Series races with great success.

But, in keeping with my often futile desire to make everyone happy, my idea is to run a ~60 minute race with normal settings for everything but have a competition yellow every so often, in effect making for multiple races within a single race so that we don't get spread out and keep it fun while still learning how the tires behave during a 60 minute race.

The alternative is as mentioned earlier, shorter races with multipliers.

Additionally, I intend to have test races all week so I'd like some consensus on what time of day.

Well, through the week, I finish work at 11:30am Pacific Time. Y'know, middle of the afternoon.
I usually head to bed around 5:30pm pacific. Y'know, bed time.
So I may not have a useful contribution for your community research project.
Exceptions are Sunday night, of course.

60 minute race sounds good to me. I'd like to see what I am actually doing to my tires. I'd try that out.

As far as week day testing the best time for me is later, like 10PM central. But what is ever decided I can try to make it.

I am motivated to post some basic performance related specs for all the cars but with the forum issues I can't do so the way that I'd like and it's probably past time that those who are serious about setting their cars up learn how to unpack the relevant files when possible and use CarStat 2.3 to view data. The proverbial handing you a fishing pole vs giving you a fish. Effort shall be rewarded.

Car Stat 2.3
https://drive.google.com/file/d/17Am3KS1slxsMePZ51J4YL-Ze5LYC7ZpL/view?usp=sharing

Use the MAS utility from the rFactor 2 launch screen to decompress "MAIN" and "TEAM" mas files to a folder and then open the desired VEH file with Car Stat 2.3.

To get every hundredth of a second out of these cars will require a commitment to testing as part of your practice, especially for the 60 minute Sprint races but we'll put some basics together after the Official Test.

I'm going to change up the Informal tests to be 13 lap races, we need to know what's going to happen with the Twin Sprints, too, not as simple as wicking up the power and putting in enough fuel.

Just a heads up that I upgraded LiveRacers for a number of reasons, one of which is to help with testing ahead of the GT3 season.

Regarding Car Stat 2.3

Rich realized an easier way. Simply unrar the CarSat 2.3.3.rar to a folder and start the application from there, it will decompress the .mas files automatically.

Be aware that traction control is an option for use in these cars.

It must be changed in settings/difficulty not in the actual setup/garage page.

So does that mean that you can't toggle it on/off as in other sims? If so that's too bad. TC is great at times but it does slow you down some.
